The Art of Home Decoration

If you would have your rooms interesting as well as beautiful, make them say something, give them a spinal column by keeping all ornamentation subservient to line.

Before you buy anything, try to imagine how you want each room to look when completed; get the picture well in your mind, as a painter would;think out the main features, for the details all depend upon these and will quickly suggest themselves. This is, in the long run, the quickest and the most economical method of furnishing.

There is a theory that no room can be created all at once, that it must grow gradually. In a sense this is a fact, so far as it refers to the amateur. The professional is always occupied with creating and recreating rooms and can instantly summon to mind complete schemes of decoration. The amateur can also learn to mentally furnish rooms. It is a fascinating pastime when one gets the knack of it.

Beautiful things can be obtained anywhere and for the minimum price, if one has a feeling for line and colour, or for either. If the lover of the beautiful was not born with this art instinct, it may be quickly acquired. A decorator creates or rearranges one room; the owner does the next, alone, or with assistance, and in a season or two has spread his or her own wings and worked out legitimate schemes, teeming with individuality. One observes, is pleased with results and asks oneself why. This is the birth of good taste.

Treat your rooms like “still life,” see to it that each group, such as a table, sofa, and one or two chairs make a “composition,” suggesting comfort as well as beauty. Never have an isolated chair, unless it is placed against the wall, as part of the decorative scheme.

History of Gaming

Gaming has certainly come an awful long way since the days of Atari’s 2600 system, with many new innovations in how a game is played, not to mention in its visual and audio quality. Back in the 1970’s, with the dawn of the video gaming age, the goal was to offer the most entertaining and innovative games that technology would allow, which is a tradition that is still ongoing to this day, with companies always seeking to get the most out of the latest gaming systems, but games were very different in both looks and game play, than what is the norm today. Many of the biggest early gaming successes were based around a simplistic concept that worked, with games such as Pong being incredibly addictive, but yet it seems so basic by today’s standards.

After the gaming crash of 1983, game makers felt increased pressure to offer something new and unique enough to generate substantial interest. Quite possibly the biggest turning point in gaming to date was the release of Nintendo’s Famicom, or Nintendo Entertainment System as it would be known as within the United States. The Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short, while still being based around an 8-bit chip like the systems before it were, offered a whole new level of game play depth that was thought to be impossible only a short time before. Graphics were considerably sharper than for any previous system, and the variety of games was simply like nothing that had been seen before. By the opinions of most, the NES nearly singlehandedly saved gaming from what had looked to be a swift demise. Read the rest of this entry

Every business, large or small, is looking for success, no matter how they define it. For most, this is looking for a way to satisfy their customers, outdo their competition, and make enough money to survive – all at the same time. To start you on your way, here are three simple things that every business needs to do if they want to be successful.

One of the simplest things you can do to guarantee success is also one of the most important; you absolutely must find a way to give your customers what they want. If you are not giving your customers what they want and need, they will not be your customers for long, no matter how low your prices are or how great your service is.

The second of these simple things you must do is to always give your customers more than what they expect. This is one of the easiest ways to keep your customers happy and loyal to you. The best part is it does not need to cost you anything to offer more. You can set yourself apart by offering outstanding service or maybe by offering instruction on how to get the most out of whatever you are selling. If you sell products your customers have to set up or put together, why not try offering free assembly to set your business apart?

The third simple way to assure success in your business is something many owners do not give much thought to. You need to make it easy for a customer to buy from you. Do your customers know where to find you? Can your customers find your address, phone number, and what you offer easily? Do you have a well planned website that is secure and easy to make a purchase from? Is there a way for your customers to talk to a real live person if they have a problem or a question? Egypt, Land Before Time

In recent years, the number of people touring Egypt has slowly dwindled. This is most likely due to the violence in the Middle Eastern region and the few bombings and kidnappings that have occured in recent years. However, these cases are pretty much isolated, and the thousands of people who visit Egypt every year thoroughly enjoy their experience there.

Egypt is famous for a lot of things, from their exotic perfumes, fine cotton, and the mysteries of mummification and their ancient religion. However, I would like to focus on the architectural and engineering wonders of the Egyptian civilization. When the tribes in Europe and Africa were still building huts and shelters, the Egyptians have already constructed monstrous monuments hundreds of feet in height and width. It is this superiority that has elevated the ancient Egyptian civilization as one of the greatest civilizations in the world. Read the rest of this entry

Online Games – why people play? Why do we do anything- because we love doing it? By natural instinct every animal seeks pleasure and runs away from pain. Home Improvement Ideas

Home improvement is a very widespread field, with many ideas from which to choose. During the summertime, countless people think about remodeling their homes, making improvements to certain rooms of the house, but are often not sure which improvements to do. Low-cost home improvements that not only improve your home’s appearance, but also help you save money in the long run, are the hottest plans currently. I’m writing this to list these ideas and hopefully, help spark your imagination. These are the top 5 home improvement ideas for 2009:

1.) Installing “Green” Technology – Due to the need of almost everyone to save money right now, and because of the increased awareness of the need to save our environment, the top home improvement plan right now is the installing of “green” technology, also known as “going green.” This could include such installments as solar panels, power-generating windmills, environmentally-friendly cleaners, energy efficient heating and cooling system, and energy-saving light bulbs. Solar panels may be costly at first, but they will save a huge amount of money in the long run by generating your own electricity. The same goes for the energy efficient heating and cooling system – it will help you save money on your electric bills. Windmills can not only help you generate your own electricity, but they can be made with parts from the junkyard. You can’t get much cheaper than that! Also, many of these “going green” improvements will help you qualify for a tax break and help out the environment. It’s a win-win situation.

2.) Install a programmable thermostat – This may be a very simple improvement, but don’t underestimate it. Installing a programmable thermostat will help save money on your electric bills. How does it do this? Instead of having the air conditioning or the heater running all day, the pre-programmed thermostat only turns on the AC or the heat when the temperature of the house gets too hot or too cold. This keeps the central heating and cooling system from running unnecessarily and, in turn, saves you money.

3.) Re-insulate your home – Making sure your home is well insulated will also help save you money on electric bills. That is because a well-insulated home will not let out cool air in the summer, and it will not let out warm air in the winter. That also keeps hot or cold air from drafting into the house.

4.) Paint or re-decorate your living space – This may seem like a very simple improvement to your home, but it is effective. Painting your rooms and re-decorating in soothing colors and accents will help you relax and want to spend more time in your newly decorated home. Pamper yourself along with the new designs and you will feel like you are at a spa getaway.

5.) Put in a patio – This is probably the most expensive option (unless you have close friends or family who are carpenters) but it is worth the splurge. A patio or a sun deck will allow you to relax and soak up some rays in your own back yard. You can grill out with family and friends, sun bathe on a chaisse lounge, or watch the stars from your patio. The good thing about putting in a patio is that it is actually less expensive than adding a room onto your house. A patio may be a small addition, but it will more than pay for itself with all the hours of relaxation it will afford.

No matter which home improvement idea you decide to choose, the payoff will be well worth it. Even if these ideas aren’t what you are looking for, there are many other low-cost home improvement ideas. This year, less is more is the approach to home improvement, and saving money is the best thing.

Over time, your Windows Vista or XP system can lose performance causing potentially long delays in getting stuff done. This can be very frustrating and many people experience this particularly with computers running Windows.

You might consider radical approaches such as complete re-install of Windows or perhaps even buying a new computer? Usually, there is no need and you can save a lot of time and money with some simple steps to improve your Windows computer performance. The five tips below are the easiest and cheapest ways to speed up your Windows XP or VISTA computer today:

1) Eliminate viruses and spyware
Viruses and spyware are one of the main causes of making your Windows computer run slowly as they deliver nothing but consume valuable system resources.

2) Free up disk space
Windows needs a lot of free disk space to operate. If you are running short on disk space, it can slow down your computers performance.
Free up as much disk space as possible on your system diver (c:) by deleting unwanted programs and data or moving these to cheap USB data keys or other storage devices.

3) Clean the registry
The “registry” is a system file that keeps track of software settings. You don’t see it but it’s essential for Windows to operate. As you install and uninstall programs, small fragments of data are left hanging around on your computer in its “registry”. Over time, these small fragments of old data can cause Windows to slow down.
Using an inexpensive registry cleaner can improve your Windows system performance.

4) Eliminate unnecessary programs
Many programs that you install load into memory every time you start Windows. Loading programs into memory means longer start up time for Windows and slows down performance.
Type “MSCONFIG” into Windows Vista search to identify and disable unwanted programs that run on Windows start up.

5) Optimize your hard drive
As you use your computer, the data becomes scattered across your hard drive. This is perfectly normal but can slow down your Windows performance over time.
Use the Windows built in tool “Defragmentation” [right click a drive -> properties -> tools -> Defragmentation] to optimize your hard disk and speed up your Windows computer.

These steps are easy and can significantly improve your computer’s Windows performance. Why not give them a go and see if they can save you time on re-installing Windows or even money on buying a new computer?
